Abandoned serenity
Faith built in the mountain Nestled on the northern slope of Mount Jabal Moussa, overlooking Adonis Valley, under a majestic oak tree, stand the “Mar Geryes monastery” and “St. Georges’ church”. The Monastery “" دير مار جرجس - الجبل was founded in the beginning of the 18th century in the village of Yahchouch.
The present monastery and church were built between 1820 and 1829 and were still inhabited by a priest until the middle of the 20th century. The convent is now abandoned. The church was built on the remains of a Roman temple, the remains of which were used in its construction. Every year, on the 23rd April and the 3rd November, the feast of St. Georges’ is celebrated in the church.
